The evening will start with a talk by Micheál O’ Diarmada, about the multitude of focail as gaeilge that were in current use when he was growing up in co. Kilkenny. there will be examples of the peculiar canúint or dialect and the sounds of Irish where a slender s was pronounced as a z.
The last surviving native Irish speaker died in 1942 in his own mother’s parish of Glenmore. Tá taifead (recording) dá chuid cainte aige. There will be a few songs from the 19th century, including a bilingual lament by a female publican during Fr Matthew’s temperance campaign.
Following that, there will be a music and song session, where we will sing a few songs that everyone should know with lyrics provided,
