Location: St John’s Priory
Viola da gamba virtuoso Lixsania Fernández has performed all over the world with leading orchestras and early music ensembles, including Jordi Savall’s Hespérion XXI and the Orquesta Nacional de España. For this concert in St John’s, Fernández explores the work of José Marín. A Spanish baroque harpist, guitarist and composer, Marín led a turbulent life marked by scandals and murder but remains famous for his tonos humanos or ‘secular songs’. Concerned almost exclusively with love, sex and longing, the tonos humanos are playful, poignant, teasing and tormented, and celebrated for their enduring melodic charm.
