Set Theatre presents Lisa Hannigan Ensemble in St. Canice’s Cathedral to coincide with the breathtaking touring artwork Museum Of The Moon by UK artist Luke Jerram.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.
The moon has always inspired humanity, acting as a ‘cultural mirror’ to society, reflecting the ideas and beliefs of all people around the world. Over the centuries, the moon has been interpreted as a god and as a planet. It has been used as a timekeeper, calendar and been a source of light to aid nighttime navigation. Throughout history the moon has inspired artists, poets, scientists, writers and musicians the world over. The ethereal blue light cast by a full moon, the delicate crescent following the setting sun, or the mysterious dark side of the moon has evoked passion and exploration. Different cultures around the world have their own historical, cultural, scientific and religious relationships to the moon. And yet somehow, despite these differences, the moon connects us all.
LISA HANNIGAN ENSEMBLE
Following her sold out collaboration with the Irish Arts Center in New York earlier this year, Lisa Hannigan is bringing this very special production to Kilkenny in March. This fully seated performance will feature a reimagining of Lisa’s music.
For her residency at the Irish Arts Centre in New York, Lisa surrounded herself with a veritable dream team of musicians including Theodora Byrne (vocals), Yuki Numata Resnick (violin) and Clarice Jensen (cello), Karen Cowley (Krea) (vocals), and Jane Patterson (vocals). Lisa had had a wonderful experience working with Theodora Byrne Ensemble lockdown project on Theo’s vocal arrangement of Lisa’s “We the Drowned’ which set off the whole idea of arranging some of Lisa’s songs in such a different way. Lisa had met Yuki Numata Resnick through Aaron Dessner who produced At Swim and knew of Clarice Jensen through People festival, and had previously enjoyed collaborating with Karen Cowley (Krea) and Jane Patterson on Irish shows together.
Please note: this is a fully seated show.
