Saturday 18th January 2025
Location: Kells Priory Kells Co. Kilkenny.
Emma Langford is a musician, singer and songwriter who has been on the right side of many issues over the past number of years. She creates work that playfully blends Irish folk and contemporary sounds; very often her songs have reflected a beautiful campaigning spirit.
From her powerful ‘Birdsong’ & ‘Boys will be Boys’ protest songs, to her lyrical odes to place and childhood memory like ‘The Winding Way Down Kell’s Bay’. she has made an indelible impact on the folk and contemporary music scene in Ireland, cementing her place in hearts and minds alike.
She is, in her own words, “award-winning-and-losing”, having to date received an RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Award, the Arts Council Agility Award, numerous residencies, and the inaugural Dolores O’Riordan Bursary to support her work. She has shared stages with Declan O’Rourke, Celine Byrne, Wallis Bird, Paul Brady, the Hot House Flowers and Mary Black; in 2023 she trod the boards of Ireland’s National Concert Hall alongside conductor Éimear Noone and the National Symphony Orchestra, premiering new original works inspired by the Irish pirate queen, Gráinne Mhaol. She is also a member of star-studded collective Irish Women In Harmony. Emma has played to sold-out crowds internationally, and is touring throughout Ireland, the US, Germany and Denmark in 2025 with her small band of trusted musical collaborators.
