Desert Bloom is a captivating and enchanting production by Angelica Santander, a talented Chilean-Irish performer. This delightful show tells the story of the lifecycle of a unique red flower that grows in the arid landscapes of the Atacama Desert in Chile, South America. What makes this flower extraordinary is that it blooms only once every ten years, a rare and magical occurrence. The performance explores the conditions and elements the flower needs to blossom, weaving a tale of resilience, beauty, and nature’s wonders.
Through a mesmerizing blend of dance, storytelling, and puppetry, Angelica brings the desert to life, introducing children to the insects and creatures of the region in a vivid and engaging way. The puppetry adds a layer of charm, as the audience meets the desert’s tiny inhabitants and learns how they play a role in the flower’s journey to bloom.
The experience doesn’t end with the performance. Following the show, there’s an interactive session where young audience members are invited to play with the puppets. This hands-on activity fosters creativity and encourages children to connect with the story in a deeper, more personal way.
Presented by Circus250, an organization known for its innovative and family-friendly productions, Desert Bloom offers a unique theatrical experience that combines education, entertainment, and the arts to inspire and delight young minds. St. Patrick’s Festival Kilkenny is delighted to welcome Desert Bloom to the festival programme 2025.
