KILKENNY, June 14, 2024 – Kilkenny-based band Colcannon are set to release their debut album with an intimate live show at Cleere’s Bar & Theatre on August 30th 2024, followed by its digital release worldwide. “The Blacksmith” features eight tracks of traditional Irish tunes and folk songs – some of which date as far back as medieval times – brought to current times through the Irish bouzouki, mandolin, tin whistle and voice by husband-and-wife duo Conor King and Alexandra Vardalas.

The musical duo is passionate about keeping old songs alive, and their aim with this debut album is to bring listeners back in time, and weave a tapestry of songs that relate the history of the land, the people living in and around it, and common issues that were relevant then and indeed still to this day. Citing musical influences from Planxty, The Dubliners, and Ye Vagabonds, their sound is a unique blend of instrumental melody, close vocal harmonies, and rich storytelling.

Their live album launch event will be an opportunity for listeners to gain a closer look at these old songs and their meanings and be the first to hear the album before it is launched digitally.
