Adventures in Animation: Talk, Screening and Signing

Sunday 06th October 2024
Location: Langton Hotel Kilkenny, 69 John Street, Kilkenny
Kilkenny Animated is honoured to welcome Imogen Sutton to this year’s festival for the launch of Adventures in Animation – the eagerly anticipated biography of famed animator – and Imogen’s husband – Richard Williams.

Imogen will take to the stage to share some memorable moments from Richard’s career using curated clips from his inspirational talks and sharing creative collaborations from their life together. Their professional collaborations include Prologue, nominated for an Academy Award in 2015 – which will be screened as part of this talk – and The Animator’s Survival Kit, widely regarded as the definitive manual for animation.

Adventures in Animation takes a riveting look back on Williams life and career as a pivotal figure in animation, from the influential moment when a five-year-old Williams first watched Snow White right through sixty years at the helm of animation. Over those decades, Williams created full-length features, short films, title sequences for films and hundreds of commercials – all of which were graced by his characteristically elegant, sinuous lines and magnificent imagination. Williams’ place in animation history is assured: he directed the Academy Award-winning 1971 adaptation of A Christmas Carol and perhaps most famously worked as Director of Animation on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, for which he won two Academy Awards.

Serving as the linkman between the original creators of the world of Disney (Snow White, Dumbo, The Jungle Book) and the current generation of digital animators (Toy Story, The Incredibles and Ice Age), it is fair to say that his like will not be seen again.

This event will be followed by a book-signing.
