Saturday 12th April 2025
Location: Cleeres Bar and Theatre, 28 Parliament Street, Kilkenny
To mark the release of his fourteenth studio album, Dundalk Punk/Poet Jinx Lennon teams up with Cork Punk/Alt-Folk outfit Wasps vs Humans and Kilkenny Rapper Captain Moonlight, when they play Cleere’s Theatre on Saturday April 12 for a night of Punk Antifolk Music, Beats and Noise.
Jinx has been at the periphery of the Irish music scene since the mid eighties playing in Novena Babes, Silver Seeds, Sneaky Pete and The Ostrich before going solo in 1999. Described as ”Ireland’s Premier punk poet”, he writes about his own head wrecks, the local oddballs, the drama and the characters of Dundalk border existence and beyond.
A busy year in 2024; with two Irish tours under his belt, two nights at Glastonbury, a performance on the East European fishing ship ‘Ms Stubnitz’ in Hamburg, Electric Picnic and a stint in Glasgow, Jinx is set to hit 2025 with his new album ‘The Hate Agents Leer At The Last Isle Of Hope’ releasing in April 2025.
Wasps vs Humans have honed their distinctive alt punk/folk sound over the last year, releasing their debut album ‘Scratchcard Empires’ back in October.
A reputation for their high octane live performances, their debut album reflects the raw energy, typical of the WvH’s sound; an anarchic mix of drums, bodhrán, whistles, punk poetry, songs and beats. Featuring singles, ’20 million Andrew Tates’, ‘Price You Pay’ and ‘Ugly America’, Scratchcard Empires is a dark take on life’s expectations; dealing with disappointment, inner city crime, an obsessive fame craving culture, with a huge dollop of desperation.
One of Irish Hip Hop’s finest, Kilkenny rapper Captain Moonlight has never been one to avoid saying what’s on his mind; a rapper, writer, producer and political vomit inducer, his social commentary tackles serious issues, with a dash of punk, a swing of a hurl and a folk horror narrative, creating intelligent, hard-hitting, often humorous hip-hop.
After releasing his ‘Agroculture’ trilogy back in the noughties, which included tracks, ‘Dirty Cunt’s ‘Economics Of A Wasted Life’ and ‘Fuck U’, a fallow period followed…
Captain Moonlight 2.0 is older, angrier, looking to fight the Taoiseach while waving a Palestinian flag, wrapped in a post covid psychosis and all in the midst of recording his forthcoming album, ‘Offences Against The State Act 1’, due for release soon.
This triple bill will shake away the lethargy vampires, with their brand of antifolk border schizo fffolkmusic, spoken verbal bile to pull the good side out, neanderthal beats, lyrics and a garage rock state of mind.
