Exploring loss and preservation amid scientific research to improve native woodland, Marielle MacLeman’s solo show is a playful yet critical lament on Ireland’s built and natural heritage. Animating a scene change between the domestic and global, she veneers surfaces with diseased woodchips and fallen leaves, recreates the razed wallpapers of a ‘big house’ with invasive species, and dyes upholstery with ‘climate-ready’ ivy – ubiquitous underminer of walls and trees but essential in stabilising their rotting remains. Working with salvaged and scavenged materials, her artworks interact like a strange forest set. A room for visitors – invited and otherwise – ready to come apart for the next scene.
